For two months now my church has allowed me to work as a part-time chaplain at a couple of hospitals. The hospital I was scheduled to work at over these last two days was Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, Ca.
Holy Cross was one of several hospitals that received patients from the Metrolink train wreck in Chatsworth this past Friday. I have to say one of the most surreal experiences in my life was to be working in the emergency room yesterday evening when the ambulances rolled in and kept rolling in from the site. Last night I worked alongside some other wonderful chaplains. We also worked with and observed a hospital staff that worked together and were unified all evening and through the night. It was a relief this morning after arriving to the hospital when I heard that there were some folks who were much better this morning since yesterday’s wreck.
As I drove home tonight from the hospital I was listening to the latest news on a local radio station. The story that made the news tonight was the list of 25 persons who had died in the wreck. As the DJ read the names I couldn’t help but remember three or four names of folks, who had been read off the list, who had parents and friends sitting and waiting for answers and help in finding their loved ones last night.
My thought as I listened to the radio driving home was that all I could along with everyone else who helped yesterday, from fire crews, to the doctors, and nurses was to pray. Pray for those who are grieving this evening. Who are hurting. And praying that God would bring comfort to those who sleep tonight without there loved ones.

I’m jazzed that the movie is finally here. I loved being a kid watching silly cartoons like speedracer. Other movies on my list? Iron Man, the Hulk, and whatever else that’s coming out that will make me wish I was a kid again, sitting and eating a bowl of cereal on a Saturday morning in the early 80′s.

We saw Horton hears a who tonight. It was awesome if you love Dr. Seuss stuff. What was neat was the trillion kids in the theater and the applause at the end of the movie. Way to go Mr. Carey!
My favorite line from the book and in the movie, “A persons a person no matter how small.” Totally preachable!
Can you guess what’s coming beings that I’m a spouse of a public school teacher?

Sunday mornings growing up as a kid usually consisted of a simple routine.
1. Cereal
2. Cartoons
3. More cereal
4. Speedracer
And yes the Lord would eventually change the routine…
But, speedracer rocks!!!

Saw August Rush tonight with Debbie. A little slow to start…
I actually liked it…I cried a little.
It made me think…
I don’t play my guitar enough. I need to play more.

My two favorite action figures as a kid…
1. The Bionic Man, “Mr. Col. Steve Austin with that toy rocket with the pop out bionics…
2. And Mr. Evil Knievel and his bike.
Today across the world a generation of kid mourns with the passing of Mr. Evil Knievel. Very sad. How many of us pretended we were Knievel as kids? What it really means is that I’m getting old.

Where we live in West Palmdale it looks like someone dropped a bomb on the other side of the mountains. My son said that one of his buddies relatives lost their home in Santa Clarita. Prayers for the people affected by the loss and prayers for those fighting the fires.
We saw the movie Amazing Grace last night. See it. Please. My favorite line of the movie, “I’m the worlds greatest sinner and Christ is the worlds greatest Savior…I hope I got that right. Anyways, see it. An old friend has helped write a book that I hope to get that will only add to helping grasp the power of this movie here.
