Post Easter…

He is risen! He is risen indeed! Woke up Easter morning around 3:20am. Showered, got ready for a beautiful sunrise service at 6:00am (of course it was the Antelope Valley cloud cover) Arrived to the church at 4:30am after stopping at McDonald’s for coffee. (I can’t believe I’m saying this, the coffee is actually better than Starbucks) Littlerock is also the quietest little place in the Valley at 4:30am. Finished one service got ready for the next two. It was a joy to be able to preach on Easter Sunday. Years past I’ve been on the other side listening to the preacher or I was always away doing some kind of youth group mission trip. This year was neat in that I got to be the one giving the message. My favorite sermon of the three was the one I gave to a bunch of folks at the Sunrise service in Juniper Hills. My sermon title was it really happened,” and my text was Matthew 28:1-10. What was special about the day was that three of the churches from the area helped lead the service. Each of the pastors had a different role and it was a day where we were one church, the church universal proclaiming that Jesus is Lord. We also had a great day back at the church. I loved arriving to the smell of lilies and coffee. After the second service folks stayed and ate some Easter munchies and fellowshiped together. The parental unit in-laws joined us for church. It was neat to have them in worship. We ended the day with a feast back at case de Wahe. Yours truly cooked his first ham. It was also a blessing in that we’ve never owned a home until this year, praise God! We were able to host our first meal for our relatives. The best part once the meal was over and as I couldn’t keep my eyes open from being up since 3:30am and stuffing my face with easter treats was hearing the sounds of the “moms” outside with kids searching for plastic eggs filled with coins and than watching one of the kiddoes counting his loot. Anyways, praise be to God that we in the church universal get to celebrate “Easter” all year long…oh yeah! The dodgers swept the giants…a very cool day. Thanks for the reminder Scotty!

Man…

7:22am. You know your kids are growing up when you hear this statement while they’re getting ready for school, “Dad, could you pop this?” As he’s pointing to his pimple…AGHHHH!!!! I can’t stand it. I’ve blinked and my kid has a pimple. Anyways, I’ve been in blog silence of late. Lots happening. Organizing office at church with the help of a couple of folks and we hired a new office person too. Thank you God for this day!!!! And it’s almost Dodger Dog time…nice!!

First Week…

Church, school, new jobs, new house. My bride is getting settled in her new school and teaching gig. We’re doing pretty okay for the first week of the new year. Our oldest is enjoying his new school. Our other two are enjoying their new school and our youngest is in full day kinder which saves his parental units some day care money. I’m loving our church very much. Our first session retreat is this weekend. I’m looking forward to spending time with some wonderful leaders. I’m also enjoying the sermon thingy every Sunday. One of our elders who leads a Bible study during the week is doing a study on Colossians and I’ve decided to do my sermons in-sync with his study which is a cool thing. Anyways, all is well. Supposed to snow some on Friday??? It was in the high 60’s yesterday…and the new season of “24″ kicks off! Go Jack! Praise God for new beginnings.

Mi Casa…

I feel like Tom Cruise in that movie where he’s running with that little white flag to claim his land…what movie was that? We’re in…it’s pretty rad! Boxes galore, last day of fast-food and starbucks…made the quickie run to Trader Joes…kids love the new place. My bride is jazzed and we’re praising God for our new home. Guess what I’m finishing up for the morning???

Stuff

I can’t wait for when the whole family will be in place down here. I miss them tremendously. Will be home soon. Two more weeks until escrow closes here in Palmdale. I’m actually finishing up a bagel and mocha at Panaera taking advantage of the free wifi. We loved the Panera in Princeton. Come on Starbucks! Get with it. Worship starts soon and I’m looking forward to the drama presentation that folks have put together to lead our church in reflecting on the third Sunday of Advent and in preparing for the birth of our Lord. All has gone well these last few weeks and I can’t wait to be done with the move. My first congregational meeting is today to elect new leaders for our church. Thanks to Steve for letting me call him to get some pointers on running a congregational meeting.

Having fun…

I’m having lots of fun these last few weeks as I’ve started my new call as a pastor. I had to laugh this Sunday because of some computer issues with folks who are faithful at serving in getting things ready, we were printing bulletins and copying them at the same time an hour before the service. Of course with the help of a couple of folks while I was getting ready for church it all came together. It will be nice to get into a regular routine of being in the office to get the essentials done during the week, so that I can be available to folks, especially prior to service starting. This week we are doing a Christmas drama and it will be nice not to have to pump out a sermon while traveling. God is good and I can’t wait to have my family and I totally moved down to Palmdale. Christmas will be a bit interesting with escrow closing the 29th, but it’s all good! I will have lots more to blog about once we’re settled, until then…peace!

Presbytery

dsc01109.JPGJust took this of our kiddies. It was 34 degrees at 7am this morning. IPASTOR has snow. We have leaves. Flying down in a few hours for a presbytery meeting. I go before presbytery for examination for the church I will be serving with as pastor. This is the last hoop. Would enjoy your prayers. For those of you seven readers the installation pending “approval” is January 21 at 4pm in Littlerock.

New house offer…

216588.jpgWe made an offer on a house. They’ve accepted our offer! Yeah! Fourteen miles from church. Not bad. Seven miles from Deb’s new teaching position and the school for our kindergartner is a five minute walk around the block. The high school is literally separated by a brick wall. We can see the football stadium literally…The Jr. High school is three miles away. Praise God!!!
