My side job

Friday, February 29th, 2008

I keep getting these side gigs at my wife’s school. Meet Geronimo Stilton…

Again, this is what happens when you’re married to a first grade public school teacher. The number of babies and kinder kids I scared was concerning. I did get some compliments and folks thought I was Arthur. Anyways, it’s for the kids! Of course T-bone was my escort and helped me walk around the school because I couldn’t see where I was going with the big mouse head. The coordinator said she was already thinking of my next gig and I told her that I’m getting an agent.

A Prayer for Lent, by Henri Nouwen
How often have I lived through these weeks without paying much attention to penance, fasting, and prayer? How often have I missed the spiritual fruits of the season without even being aware of it? But how can I ever really celebrate Easter without observing Lent? How can I rejoice fully in your Resurrection when I have avoided participating in your death? Yes, Lord, I have to die—with you, through you, and in you—and thus become ready to recognize you when you appear to me in your Resurrection. There is so much in me that needs to die: false attachments, greed and anger, impatience and stinginess…. I see clearly now how little I have died with you, really gone your way and been faithful to it. O Lord, make this Lenten season different from the other ones. Let me find you again. Amen.

A high and a low

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

Served with a pastor way back when who I grabbed this high & low idea from.

My high for the day…

222.8 with socks on and 222.6 without socks

down from 236 with clothes on. hehe.

My low for the day…

We went to our first IB high school informational meeting for our oldest last night. Yes I’m thrilled that he will be in high school. And yes I’m counting the days until he leaves for college. But yes I am missing the days when I used to carry the kiddoe on my back in one of those, “daddy I can at least carry him on my back, back pack thingy’s.”

The kiddoe can carry me now.

Back to work!

conflict

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

I’ve finally begun some much needed reading for a class I’m taking in March called Managing Conflict at Fuller. I’ve started with a book on church conflict using Bowen’s family systems theory approach to understanding how to deal with conflict in the church looking at the church as a family unit. Interesting thought and makes understanding how to deal with conflict when it arises a bit more manageable in the church by looking at the whole church as one big family. I’m really looking forward to the class and I’m hoping to gain some insight in managing conflict especially knowing that anyone in ministry will encounter conflict often and that it’s unavoidable.

Zero the Hero Update…

Saturday, February 9th, 2008

Today was the 100th day at our kiddoes school. I got to be Zero the Hero. Of course my fee was starbucks cash. I danced around and counted to 100 with about 150 Kinders and first graders. This is what happens when your married to a teacher…

I actually had fun. Of course the T-bone says, “Dad, now is the real Zero the Hero coming? I knew it was you because of your beard.”

Of course I said, “Zero was busy helping all of the other kids of the world count to 100 and he hired me to help him.”
