Balance…

Friday, September 22nd, 2006

I’ve done lots of reflecting these last few months. I’ve come to the conclusion that any blessing a pastor can receive is his or her time with family. In a few days I get to help chaperon my fifth graders class trip to Yosemite for five days. I can’t wait. We’ve been looking forward to this trip since last year. We actually got to go to Yosemite as a family during the summer, which was awesome. Yesterday I also got to chaperon our kindergartners “bus safety” trip. What a treat to be able to do these things while in the process of searching for a church to serve as pastor. Thank you Lord. What I’m really enjoying is the fact that I’ve implemented into my life a routine of exercise and running. Since December 05, I give thanks to God in that I’ve lost around 22 pounds of flab. Down to a nifty 211. The last time I was 211 was before seminary in June 2000. So, this time of searching for a new call for me is a time to find balance. Balance in all aspects of my life. My marriage, my family, and my call to follow Jesus. Praise be to God!

Oh yeah…

I’ve recently been helping out at a cool little church near by helping them run their youth ministry. We broke up into two small groups. I had a couple of questions for them to ponder and chat about based off of Acts 2:42. One of the questions was, “why is church so boring?” We talked and they shared honestly. They actually had some great things to say about their Senior Pastor which was awesome. One student said, “If we had more youthful people like you running church, it would be better.” Youthful? Me! Heck yeah!!! I’ve still got it baby!!!!

Jr. High Stuff

Saturday, September 16th, 2006

Time stopped tonight. All dressed up. Some cash in hand and a permission slip. The drive was actually kind of surreal. Parents lined up in the car pool lanes, you can hear the music blasting as we pulled up, and you can see the gym in all its glitter. Kids all decked out. As we pulled up to the school, it was almost as if there was nothing and no one else around. Quiet as a whistle. The door opened and the door closed. Off he went. As I drove off I watched him leave on his way. No turning back to say see ya later dad. No last minute hugs. No last minute anything. It was like yesterday that I was with him in all his toddlerness watching him go down the big slide with my heart in my throat at that little park in Burbank…now I watch him go down the next big slide of life…the first school dance. Lord, bless and protect our boy and may he enjoy these next years of this ride called Jr. High. Amen.

No more…

Trash

Thursday, September 14th, 2006

TrashSanitation Engineers are on strike. One only has so much room in a trash can. I’m feeling very grateful to God for what these folks, who are servants, in what they do every Monday morning for my family. Glad talks are resuming.

Returned from the refuse station after taking six bags of trash. Stinky, smelly, worm infested, gross trash. If you go after 3pm, you can drop your trash off for free…we need you Mr. & Mrs. Sanitation Engineers of Sacramento. Please come back…:)
