Found out through Andrew a couple of minutes ago. Ok. I confess. I’m not as blogoriffic as others are. My blogomentors (they don’t know this) are pastors like Dr. Tod Bolsinger (San Clemente Presbyterian) and Dr. Mark Roberts (Irvine Presbyterian) and my buddy Steve at thygraceissufficient. My youth ministry blog buddies Andrew and Peter (Never met him, great blogger) are also a couple of bloggers who are proclaiming the gospel through their blogs. My desire is mostly is to somehow proclaim Christ and to add to the blogging ministry world. Muchas Gracias YS for the featured blog! As my buddy Andrew has now said, "the pressure is on." Don’t forget to check out the other bloggers on my blog, all great bloggers proclaiming Christ and of course Mr. YSMarko continues to add to the ministry blogging world and keeps reminding me of how much I’d love his job.

Word on the street from University Covenant Church in Davis, Ca…
"Just want to let you know about an exciting event to be held in Davis at the end of October. Dr. Chap Clark is coming to University Covenant Church in Davis on October 28 and 29 to speak to parents, youth leaders, counselors and educators. Chap is an expert on youth culture, and author of the book Hurt: Inside the World of Today’s Teenagers. He is also the director of the Student Leadership Project and Institute of Youth Ministry as well as an associate professor of youth, family and culture at Fuller Seminary. During his visit, Chap will address issues such as peers, school,
family, sex, depression, self-injury, busyness, and partying, as well as the pervasive sense of abandonment affecting our youth. Thankfully, Chap will also offer strategies for how we can begin to address these issues!"

Found this on Mark’s blog…
World Magazine is hosting a new theology blog, called, sensibly enough, Theologica. There are ten bloggers in the Theologica
consortium, including me (Mark that is). The ten of us represent a wide range of
religious experience and theological perspective, though still within a
range you could safely call "evangelical."

The church universal at work here, and here (they still need help), another way of contributing by walking (I believe CROP is directing monies to the relief effort), and another church in desperate need. I heard one presbytery worker today at church tell me that she thought she heard that the PCUSA alone lost 40 church buildings? I hope and pray this isn’t true.

I often don’t have the time because of Saturday night stuff to listen to the Garrison Keillor show. I do love his shows though. Tonight, I happened to be driving one of the boys to his "winter" baseball game (made a game winning, basses loaded catch by the way) and I happened to come across GK’s show tonight. Of course I had about two minutes to listen before the game. Here’s the quote of the night, that went something like this…"I used to believe in intelligent design…until I had a kid." As we dealt with a middle child’s birthday today, a sniffly cold blessed post toddler, and a pre-teen adolescent boy, I couldn’t help but laugh as I hard as I could.

Two of our little guys celebrate birthday’s this month. Our middle guy celebrates his this weekend. He says to me tonight before bed, "I can’t believe how fast the year goes." I responded with a good ol’ tell me about it son." I don’t have many memories of my parents being present on my birthdays. As a matter of fact, I don’t remember any of my birthdays where my parents took the time to be present and to show their love for me as their son. When I think of being present in a persons life, I have more memories of a youth leader or pastor being present in my life as a kid then I do of my parents. I even remember a birthday or two that they celebrated with me. I love birthdays with our kids! I love them so much because Deb and I get to be mom and dad. For me it’s the joy of being present. In the church it’s something I desire to model as a pastor. In my family it’s something I get to live out before our kids. It means I get to be dad. It means we get to give our kiddoes one of the greatest of memories they will ever have while growing up. A memory that they don’t have to dig out in some therapy session when they’re thirty. I want our kids to be able to say that not only were dad and mom present, they gave of themselves. They made us feel special. They were most definitely present.
